"They talked me OUT of the bigger unit, and the house has never been this comfortable."

What we do

One crew for your whole home's air.

From a single ductless mini-split to a whole-home system, we size, install and maintain, all under one roof. Every service below carries the same quality promise.

The honest call

Repair, tune-up, ducts, or replace?

Comfort problems have four very different price tags. Here is how the call gets made honestly, before anyone opens a catalog.

Repair

Most breakdowns are small.

Signs
No cool, no heat, unit hums but won’t start
Call
Often a capacitor, contactor or sensor, fixed same visit

The most common AC “death” is a $30 part. A system that stopped isn’t a system that’s finished.

Tune-up

Weak is different from broken.

Signs
Runs constantly, weak airflow, bills creeping up
Call
Filters, coils, charge checked, and leaks FOUND, not just topped up

Refilling refrigerant without finding the leak is renting your comfort by the season. Ask where it went.

The ducts

The forgotten half.

Signs
One room always hot, one always cold, dusty vents, whistling
Call
Sealing, balancing or insulation, no new equipment at all

Plenty of “my AC is too weak” homes have a right-sized unit pushing into leaking ducts. Cheapest fix on this page.

Replace

When the math flips.

Signs
12–15+ years, repairs stacking, refrigerant phased out
Call
Sized by a real load calculation, not by what was there before

Bigger is not better: an oversized system short-cycles, cools unevenly and dies younger. Sizing math first, catalog second.

No heat in January or no cooling in a heat wave counts as urgent, say so when you call and we’ll treat it that way.

Straight pricing

One number. In writing. It doesn’t move.

No hourly meter, no surprise line items, no “while we’re at it”. You approve one clear quote before a single unit is ordered, so you know the cost up front.

01
The assessment

We visit, measure every room and listen to what you actually want. Free, and it stays free.

02
Your clear quote

Equipment, labor and permit, one line, one price. Approved by you before anything starts.

In writing03
Signed & guaranteed

The number lands in writing with a one-year workmanship warranty. If it isn’t right, we make it right.

The breakdown

What moves the number.

No mystery math. Four things decide what a comfort system costs, and we walk every one with you before the quote lands.

System & efficiencyThe equipment your load calculation calls for, and how efficient you want it to run. Right-sized always beats oversized.
Ductwork & accessThe condition of your existing ducts, and how easily the furnace or air handler can be reached. Tight crawlspaces and attics take longer.
Your existing setupMatching the electrical and refrigerant lines already in place, and hauling the old equipment out clean.
Timing & seasonFlexible scheduling in the off-season costs less. A no-heat or no-cool emergency can be met, priced plainly.

Whatever the mix, you get one clear quote, in writing, before any work starts.

What a serious HVAC quote includes, ours or anyone’s:
  • Equipment named: brand, model and efficiency rating
  • Replacements: a real load calculation, not “same as before”
  • Ducts inspected and stated: sound, sealed or quoted
  • Permit & disposal of the old unit, included
  • Diagnosis fee named before the visit
  • Parts and labor warranty, separately, in writing
The load-calculation line is the tell: a company that sizes by eyeball is guessing with your next 15 years of power bills.

Recent jobs

Real work, in plain numbers.

Three jobs from the past few months, what they were, where, and how long they actually took.

Gas furnace replacement
Laurelhurst·1 day

Swapped a 20-year furnace for a 96% AFUE two-stage unit on the existing plenum. New condensate line, fresh gas flex and drip leg, then set the static pressure so it isn't starving the ducts.

Ducted heat pump, whole-home
Sellwood·4 days

Cold-climate heat pump sized off a Manual J, tied into the existing ducts with a new return added for the back bedroom. Balanced the airflow room by room so that far bedroom finally holds temperature.

No-heat repair
Montavilla·2 hours

Furnace short-cycling on a cold morning; traced it to a cracked hot-surface igniter and a sooted flame sensor. Replaced the igniter, cleaned the sensor, and cycled it three times to confirm a clean light.

Where we work

Proudly serving the Portland metro

A lot of our work comes from a neighbor who watched us comfort the house next door. If you're in the metro, we're just around the corner.

Mild winters and two real heat waves a year make this heat-pump country — one machine for both seasons, sized for the July week everyone remembers.

How it goes

From first call to done.

No mystery in the middle. This is the path the job actually takes, start to finish.

01
The in-home walkthroughwithin 24 hours

A comfort tech comes out, walks every room, checks your existing equipment, ductwork, and electrical panel, and asks how the house actually feels through the seasons. No sales pressure, just measurements and questions.

02
The load calc and design2-3 days out

We run a Manual J load calculation on your square footage, windows, and insulation to size the system right instead of guessing. You get a written plan that lists the exact equipment, model numbers, and where every unit and vent lands.

03
Quote lands in writingwithin a week

One clear quote, itemized, with the efficiency ratings and any Energy Trust of Oregon rebates spelled out. The number we write is the quote we give you, and we walk it line by line before you sign anything.

04
Install weekday of the job

A two- to three-person crew arrives when we said, lays down floor protection, and sets the equipment, refrigerant lines, and ductwork over one to two days. We pull the county permit and keep you posted at each stage.

05
Startup, walkthrough and warrantybefore we leave

We commission the system, verify airflow and refrigerant charge, and walk you through the thermostat and filter schedule room by room. You get the manufacturer warranty and our labor guarantee in a folder, and we haul off the old equipment and vacuum up before we go.

Before you hire anyone

Five questions for every HVAC company.

Including us. A new system is a 15-year decision made on the hottest or coldest day of your year. These questions slow it down just enough.

01Will you run a load calculation before quoting a system?

Rooms, windows, insulation, orientation, the math exists for a reason. “We’ll match what you have” repeats whatever mistake is already there.

02My AC needs refrigerant, where did the old charge go?

Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, it leaks. Topping up without finding the leak sells you the same visit again next summer.

03What does the diagnosis cost, before you dispatch?

A fair fee is normal. Hearing it first is the professional part.

04Are you licensed, and certified to handle refrigerant?

Both are legal requirements, not extras. The answer should be a number, not a story.

05What exactly is in the maintenance plan?

A good plan lists tasks per visit. A vague one is a discount card with a subscription. Ask for the checklist.

Bring this list to the estimate. We’ll answer all five before you ask.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Getting started
Do you charge for estimates?+
No. Written estimates for installs, repairs, duct work and comfort plans are always free, we visit, measure, talk through the options, and email you a clear, itemized quote with no obligation.
How soon can you start?+
Most estimates go out within a day, and typical projects are scheduled within one to two weeks. For urgent retrofits, before a move, a sale or an event, just tell us the date and we'll do our best to fit you in.
What does “free estimates” mean?+
Before any work begins, we give you one clear quote to approve, prep, materials and labor included. No hourly meter, no surprise add-ons at the end. You always decide before we start.
What should I do before you arrive?+
Nothing heroic. Clear a path to the furnace or air handler, note what the system is doing and when, and keep pets comfortable, we bring shoe covers and leave rooms as we found them.
Do you charge extra for evenings or weekends?+
No. The quote for a job is the price. True no-heat and no-cool emergencies have one posted call-out fee, quoted on the phone before we roll.
Can you give a price over the phone?+
A realistic range, yes. The quote lands after the assessment, in writing, before any equipment is ordered, that part never varies.
What happens during the free assessment?+
Load calculation, duct check, equipment health readings and a conversation about how you actually live in the house, then a plain-English plan with one clear quote per option.
How fast can you get here?+
No-heat and no-cool calls jump the line, usually same-day. Planned work books within the week, with a live arrival text instead of a four-hour window.
Equipment, sizing & efficiency
What brands do you install?+
Major-manufacturer equipment we can still get parts for in fifteen years, matched to your house rather than a quota. Have a preference? We quote it.
How do you size a system?+
A room-by-room Manual-J load calculation, windows, insulation, orientation, the lot. Sizing from square footage alone is how houses end up clammy or short-cycling.
Will a new system lower my bills?+
Usually, and we will show the math honestly, efficiency ratings, your rates, realistic run hours. If payback is thin we say so, sometimes duct sealing is the better first move.
Do heat pumps really work here?+
Portland is near-ideal heat pump country, mild winters, real rebates. Cold-climate models heat comfortably well below freezing, with backup heat for the rare arctic week.
Do you handle permits and rebates?+
Both. Permits pulled and inspections met on every install, and we file the utility rebate and tax-credit paperwork with you before we leave.
What filter should I buy, honestly?+
A properly sized media filter beats any gadget, we write your exact size on the cabinet and put it in your file. Members get theirs swapped at every tune-up.
Comfort, ducts & the Care Plan
Why does one room never match the thermostat?+
Ducts, almost always. Leaky, crushed or unbalanced runs starve the far rooms. Sealing and balancing usually fixes it without touching the equipment.
Which temperature is right for my home?+
Tap through the Comfort Studio above, the whole page takes on the mood of each degree. Then set your real thermostat with us during the assessment.
Is the Care Plan worth it?+
For most homes, yes: an annual inspection, free scuff and touch-up visits, priority scheduling, and 15% off future projects typically pay for the membership the first time you use it, and keep every finish looking new.
